Celebrating over 25 years in business, TSM Audio Media has been serving the North East of England and across the UK with digital multimedia services since 1999. During this time there has been many changes to this fast paced industry and it's hard to imagine now a time even before broadband internet, never mind the actual internet itself.
The company was founded in 1999 by Tony Stewart who realised that the internet was going to be the next big thing at the time. With an existing background in professional audio, installation and music production work, it was these skills that provided the foundation for producing multimedia content for digital distribution on CD & DVD. TSM Audio Media was one of only a few poineering businesses in the North East of England to be offering multimedia services at this point in time.
With a keen interest in computers, it was a natural progression for Tony to also become interested in the internet, web development and programming and he studied at Teesside University to gain the skills required for this. This meant the business in the early days could move forward in that direction quickly, as well as continuing with the existing audio & media production services.
The business was first located in Brunswick Court, Stockton-on-Tees, which was a hidden courtyard on the road opposite the ARC Art Centre. It had an olde worlde feel about the environment and was a great talking point. At this time the recording studio side of the business was very busy and these premises had a large live room area with a dedicated drum and instrument/vocal sound booth. Many large scale audio projects were completed at these premises, as well as the steady flow of solo singers booking sessions under the "Vocal Zone" service. This service was of its time and aimed at solo singers, from kids to adults of all ages, wanting to record themselves singing over a backing track and was fuelled by the surge in popularity of the then 'new TV series' Pop Idol. TSM was also providing large scale CD & DVD duplication/printing/manufacturing services across the North East of England at this point and was a member of the MCPS and the APRS.
Running alongside the recording and production services, was the creation of interactive CD-Roms & DVD products. These products often included multimedia content (audio/video) in the form of business presentations, training videos, voice over audio recordings, user manuals, graphics and more. To create such products was a technical process, that included various different programming technologies, aided by computer software such as Macromedia Director & Flash. Macromedia was eventually bought by Adobe. As most business & consumer items came with a CD-Rom, it was a busy time for TSM creating such products. Eventually as the internet expanded and broadband speeds increased, all this content was going to be provided on-line and interactive CD/DVD-Roms were no longer shipped with everything. An exciting time non the less...
After what would have been aproximately 6 years the business relocated to what was to become its home for a very long time, The Vanguard Suite, BBC Broadcasting House, Middlesbrough. This was a typical BBC building of its day, which had very good acoustically treated rooms and offices, the perfect address for a media business. TSM was located at this site for 19 years in total, but another change was to come more recently, in 2023, due to the ever changing landscape of the post covid world.
TSM relocated in August 2023 to The Innovation Centre, Queens Meadow Business Park, Hartlepool, TS25 5TG.
The business has evolved over the years and is now backed by a highly skilled team. TSM Audio Media has gained a proven track record in developing secure web applications and also in providing cyber security solutions, data protection and ISO27001 consultancy services, using its own range of bespoke software solutions, which it provides to businesses across the UK.
The journey continues....
