Backup Your Email Data - Microsoft Outlook 2007
Creating a backup of your outlook data and email account settings is as essential as creating a backup of any data.
This will help you in case of data loss or migrating from one system to another. In Outlook 2007 your e-mails are saved in a Personal Folder File with a .pst extension. Following these simple steps will help you save and restore your e-mail, contacts, rules, task and more. You will also learn how to transfer all your email accounts using a simple registry export technique.
Backup your Email data – Microsoft Outlook 2007
The data is saved in a Personal Folder File (.pst). There are at least two .pst files, one is the personal folder file which includes all of your Outlook folders, such as the Inbox, Calendar, Tasks and Contacts and the other is the Archive Folder which includes archive messages of your Outlook.
You can easily locate the data files in outlook 2007 using the following steps.
1: Go to Main Menu of Outlook 2007, Click File and select Data File Management and Account Settings, a window will pop up. The other way is to click on the Tools menu and select Account settings from the drop down menu.
Click on the Data Files tab. You may have a single data file or multiple data files. These are the data files that contain your email messages, tasks, calendar, and other items.

4. Click on the Open Folder icon. Windows Explorer will be opened automatically and will take you to the location where this data file is stored. Now select the outlook.pst and archive.pst file you want to backup and select copy..
5. Now you can copy/paste these files to any backup storage device.
Important: Make sure that you close your Outlook program before you paste these files to the new location. This is because if Outlook is open it is using these files and when you paste your copies they will have an error in them.
Backup/Export Email Account Settings - Outlook 2007
1.Start > Run > type ‘regedit’
2.Locate the following path in your ‘Registry Editor’
3.HKEY_CURRENT_USER >Software >Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion > Windows Messaging Subsystem > Profiles > Outlook
Now right click on the key "outlook" and select the option:- Export and save .reg files to your desired backup location.

Restore your Email data – Outlook 2007
This is basically the same process in reverse. Just copy your backup .pst files back into the directory that Outlook uses to store data files.
Close and restart Outlook....tada!...but...
At this point you have all your emails and calendars etc, but no email accounts.
Now just double click the registry file we backed up. This will restore your old outlook profile with all of your email accounts settings and rules. When you first open Outlook again after adding this registry key it will throw up an error saying it can't find the data files, at the prompt just browse to the folder that contains the .pst files that we copied over earlier and point Outlook to them again. Then windows will start popping up asking for the password to each of your email accounts, just enter them one by one.
You still need to enter your passwords for each email account because these are not transferred in a .reg file.
Hope this helps
